Research Fellow (Volcanology)

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invites applications for a Research Fellow in volcanic hazard and risk assessment. The successful candidate will pursue an independent research agenda in volcanic ash impacts and recovery. Research is expected to include timely field assessments and the development of remote sensing techniques and approaches to assess eruption impacts and recovery at a number of regional case study volcanoes. Expertise in physical volcanology and impact assessment are therefore required, with interests across the spectrum of empirical, experimental and theoretical methods.
The Fellow will collaborate with Assistant Professor Susanna Jenkins and international colleagues across the Asia-Pacific. The Fellow will also support the objectives of the volcanology team at EOS in conducting fundamental research on volcanic eruptions in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies. In particular, the Fellow will be willing to contribute to post-eruption impact assessments in the event of a damaging eruption in the region, and should be keen to foster collaborations in volcanic hazard and risk with local partners. The Fellow is expected to publish their research in international peer-reviewed journals and actively participate in discussions with EOS PhD students, Fellows and faculty members.
The post will suit an enthusiastic and well-published researcher with a PhD and at least two years post-doctoral experience in volcanic hazard and risk assessment.
