I study the tectonic evolution of continents, and particularly the deformation of the Asian plate induced by the India-Asia collision. To reproduce the deformation, I conduct numerical simulations with YADE, an open-source software based on the Discrete Element Method. I then verify the results of simulations by comparing the software generated numerical values to the current faults map. The comparison gives me a better insight into the mechanism of the deformation of the Asian plate. In turn, this insight enables me to predict further deformation, which may lead to future earthquakes on the Asian plate.
I also use YADE to model magma movement during volcanic activities, and compare the model to observations based on the low frequency seismicity data.
