Padang on the Edge
Scientists believe that a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami are likely to occur sometime in the coming decades in West Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The city of Padang, with a half million people living and working within one hundred meters of the sea, lies directly in the path of potential devastation. Although research is advancing, there is no predicting the exact day, month, or year when this may happen. Efforts to prepare are hard won and extremely complicated in this vibrant and vulnerable city.
