CHENG Lilu
My main research interests are in the processes of mantle-derived magmas storage, crystallization, mixing and eruption in the crust, and the genesis of intermediate and silicic magmas. I was working in magma processes of Emeishan Large igneous province (SW China) for several years. I have used some different techniques (e.g. geochemistry, crystal size distribution; petrology; numerical modeling) to further constrain nature of magma storage and eruption in Emeishan LIP. Now i try to combine new statistical tools based on pattern recognition with simple thermodynamic models to understand the crystal zoning patterns and crystal population and thus unravel the processes that drive eruptions at open vent volcanoes.
