Fossils Encased in Permian Dolomite

Fossils Encased in Permian Dolomite

What used to be part of the ocean is now Guadalupe National Park in Texas, USA. These fossils found in 2012 were encased in Permian dolomite, which suggest the presence of a marine environment in the past. Such ammonoids were extinct with the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago, and the carbonate shells of the fossils have been replaced with dolomite minerals over a long period of time.
