Project Officer (InVEST Component A)

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Project Officer to manage research data, code, and outputs for the ‘Integrating Volcano and Earthquake Science and Technology (InVEST) in Southeast Asia’ project, a 5-year project that aims to provide a holistic understanding of regional tectonics, volcanoes, the linkages between the two, and their cascading hazards and impacts in Singapore and Southeast Asia.  

The candidate will work under the supervision of Asst Prof FENG Lujia, and the primary job scope is to support building a 3D fault model for the Southeast Asian Ring of Fire. However, the candidate will also collaborate with many InVEST PIs, staff, and students to support their research and ensure InVEST research data, code, and outputs are properly archived. We will be hiring many research staff and students to work on this project, so it promises to be a very exciting time to join our team!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Search and compile publicly available geological, geophysical, and seismic data for Southeast Asia

  • Locate, compile, and digitize (if necessary) EOS’s own geological and geophysical data such as historic maps and LiDAR images

  • Communicate with relevant national and international agencies to obtain non-public geological, geophysical, and seismic data for Southeast Asia

  • Integrate research outputs from all InVEST components with existing data to build a 3D geological database for the Southeast Asian Ring of Fire

  • Participate and contribute to project research and management meetings

  • Support other data integration and compilation for InVEST research

  • Archive InVEST research data and outputs in NTU digital repository and manage repository for open-source software and code used in the project

Job Requirements:

  • BSc in Geography, Geographical Information System, Computer Science, Remote Sensing, Geophysics, Geomatics, Geodesy, Electrical Engineering, Natural Hazards, Environmental Science, or related fields

  • Strong skills in data management and GIS software

  • Experience with geospatial data sets

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively, with a strong team spirit
