Research Associate (Communication/ Psychology/ Sociology/ Social Science/ Information/ Computer Science)

As part of the Climate Transformation Programme (CTP), the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) and the Earth Observatory of Singapore are looking for a Research Associate to make an important contribution to the research project: “Climate Transformation Programme: Cross Cutting Theme 1 – Sustainable Societies” funded by the MOE Tier 3C Grant. CTP aims to develop, inspire, and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance, health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and it will transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.

As part of this programme, “Cross-cutting theme 1: Sustainable Societies”, this theme will leverage climate research in communication and virtual reality tools to shape public attitudes and behaviours towards climate change issues. The Research Associate will work directly with the PI of the Sustainable Societies theme, Professor Shirley Ho, based in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at NTU.
  

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Engage in conducting literature searches and manuscript preparation.

  • Engage in VR app development and implementation.

  • Engage in experiment conceptualization, design, and implementation.

  • Conduct statistical analyses with experimental data.  

  • Contribute to research publications and presentations.

  • Write progress report and final research report.

  • Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research with the support of and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

  • Carry out administrative work associated with the program of research as necessary.

Job Requirements:    

  • Master’s degree in communication, psychology, sociology, or social science discipline.

  • Strong foundation in VR app development, experimental research and analytical skills (e.g., SPSS, MPLUS, or R).

  • Team player in a project setting, also with ability to work independently in a multi-cultural team environment.

  • Must demonstrate initiative and good interpersonal communication skills.

  • Prior experience in VR app development and experimental research.

  • Internationally recognized research track record as evidenced by journal publications and conference presentations.
