Project Overview

We plan a reconstruction of late Quaternary environmental history of the Kallang basin, southern Singapore. Our research integrates sedimentary facies analysis, unique scanning technologies, a chronological framework from radiocarbon and OSL dating, and geochemical investigations of δ13C, δ15N, and C/N applied to eight high recovery sediment cores up to 40 m long from 4 sites in the Kallang River Basin. Cores from one site contain two marine facies successions allowing the first direct comparison of Holocene environments with the last interglacial sediments. The use of multiproxy approaches will significantly improve our facies interpretation allow the analysis of the influence of eustatic fluctuations in sea level, regional tectonics and vegetation history in the early Holocene.
